Data from our student survey is being continually compiled and analyzed. Any and all Texas Tech students are encouraged to respond to the general demographic, financial, and academic questions presented in the survey so that this study can monitor the correlations over time.
Data from our ongoing TTU student survey is programmatically analyzed to provide the latest condition of the "textbook problem" at the university.
Students unable to pay for course materials are 36% more likely to drop (does not appear on transcript) a course at Texas Tech University.
Students unable to pay for course materials are 31% more likely to withdraw (appears on transcript) from a course at Texas Tech University.
Most students spend $250 - $499 per semester on required course materials.
When asked how they pay for course materials, most students responded, "family."
56% of students stated that the cost of materials has caused them to not purchase the required materials at some point in their enrollment at Texas Tech University.
26% of students stated that the cost of materials has caused them to take fewer courses.
25% of students believe that the cost of materials has caused them to earn a lower grade than expected.
